Renovation 2013 - Week 1

It all started back in Spring of 2000, when we bought our house.  G and I made a list of all the changes we wanted to make and on that list was "gut and redo the kitchen".  Lots of things have changed since then, including 2 kids and many other home improvement projects, but that same item is still on the to do list.

Last fall we finally got serious about getting this done, and in November we started getting bids.  Since then we picked a contractor, met with said contractor and his people (including an awesome kitchen designer), picked a kitchen layout, finalized the decision to go for it and take out 2 walls, spent many hours shopping for, researching and deciding on finishes including - cabinets, counter tops, appliances, lighting and back splash tile.  We packed up a good portion of the house, gave a couple large loads of stuff away to charity, sold some furniture, and waited for this week for the work to get started.

We are just 3 days in to the work, and I can't wait to see the finished project.  My brother actually came and took the cabinets two weeks ago so he could reuse them so we are now in week 3 of no kitchen, and I have to say, it's a little more disruptive than I thought it would be.  We like to eat out, so not being able to cook is ok, but it's the little things -- like not having a kitchen sink to wash out glasses and water bottles, and not having a table on our main floor near the fridge (that as of today is now on the back porch), for eating breakfast and making lunches is pretty bizarre.  To top it all off -- I have this horrible cough, and the dust isn't helping.

Here's a look from our dinning room tonight -- I can't wait to see it all opened up!  I love seeing the changes every day...
